With 100+ marine species recorded in the area - including blue sharks, sea turtles, spinner dolphins and whale sharks - Vaageli Caves offers some of South Malé Atoll's richest cave diving. Water ranges 28-31°C, warmest April, May, July.
Vaageli Caves offers a different kind of Maldivian dive, moving away from the usual thila or channel drift. Here, we're exploring overhangs and small caverns, which tend to be a quieter experience. We've often spotted large patches of galaxea and wrinkle coral clinging to the ceilings, with the beams of our torches picking out the subtle red-line patterning on pygmygobies tucked into crevices. It's a nice site for divers who appreciate the finer details and enjoy a slower pace, perhaps after a few fast-paced channel dives.
