Velassaru Cave - South Malé Atoll

Velassaru Cave sits on the outside reef of South Malé Atoll, a straightforward dive for anyone comfortable with a little overhead environment. The cave itself is more of an overhang, really, opening up at about 18 meters and sloping down to its deepest point at 26 meters. We usually find it’s home to a good number of nurse sharks, often tucked into the darker recesses, along with some resting reef sharks. Keep an eye out for schooling bannerfish near the entrance, too. It’s a pretty easygoing dive, a good first taste of a cave for newer divers without being too committing.
