Canon

Canon is one of those gentle, unassuming sites we really love in Mauritius, perfect for getting back into the swing of things or taking it easy. It's an easy drift over a sloping reef, the kind where you can just relax and let the current do the work. The depth maxes out around 17 metres, making it super comfortable for newer divers or if you're dialling in your buoyancy. You’ll find pockets of lovely staghorn coral here, offering shelter for everything from darting rainbowfish to the slow cruise of a cigar wrasse. Keep your eyes peeled for lionfish tucked into crevices and, if you’re lucky, a ghost moray peeking out. We’ve had some fantastic luck spotting a curious arc-eye hawkfish perched on the coral. It's a great spot for macro, the sandy patches between coral bommies often reveal little blennies and the occasional cloth-of-gold cone snail. Visibility here usually holds up well, often around 18 metres, which is a real bonus for spotting those smaller creatures.
