Yohan’s Wreck - Mayotte Lagoon

Yohan’s Wreck might only sit at 19 metres, but it’s a site we genuinely love for its character. This old fishing trawler, sunk intentionally back in 2003, is the kind of wreck that perfectly balances being explorable without being intimidating. You can easily fin around the bridge structure, poke your head into the hold, and imagine the working life of the vessel. We often spend a good part of the dive just watching the resident fusiliers swirl around the mast, a shimmering column of silver scales that sometimes parts for a passing hawkfish. It’s a fantastic spot for new wreck divers, offering a real sense of adventure without any tricky currents or tight squeezes. Our favourite time to visit is mid-morning, just as the sun starts to properly illuminate the deck, bringing out the vibrant purples of the soft corals that have completely overtaken the railings. Look closely, and you’ll often find a well-camouflaged stonefish or even a sleepy turtle tucked away underneath the hull.
