Why dive here
With 269+ marine species recorded in the area - including blue sharks, blue whales, dolphins, dwarf minke whales and great white sharks - Fan Reef offers some of Cape Town & Western Cape's richest reef diving. Water ranges 14-16°C, warmest February, March, April.
Fan Reef offers a relaxed dive between 10m and 25m, making it a good spot for newer divers looking for some depth. You’ll find patches of colourful anemones and sponges clinging to the rock formations. We’ve seen small schools of hottentot and strepies here, and sometimes a shy octopus tucked into a crevice. Visibility can be a bit variable, but on a good day, it’s a pleasant way to spend an hour underwater.
