Why dive here
With 269+ marine species recorded in the area - including blue sharks, blue whales, dolphins, dwarf minke whales and great white sharks - Outer Castle offers some of Cape Town & Western Cape's richest diving. Water ranges 14-16°C, warmest February, March, April.
Outer Castle gives you a solid shore dive experience, accessible from the Cape Peninsula. It’s a rocky reef with scattered kelp beds, typical of the False Bay coast. Expect to see some smaller reef fish, crabs, and nudibranchs if you look closely amongst the rocks. It’s a decent option for a relaxed dive when the swells are calm, particularly good for those looking to practice their shore entry skills.
Safety Notes
Cold water this month (avg 15°C). Drysuit or thick wetsuit (7mm+) recommended.
