With 269+ marine species recorded in the area - including blue sharks, blue whales, dolphins, dwarf minke whales and great white sharks - SAS TRANSVAAL offers some of Cape Town & Western Cape's richest wreck diving. Water ranges 14-16°C, warmest February, March, April.
The SAS Transvaal, a frigid, lies upright at 30 metres off Cape Point, a deep dive best suited for experienced wreck divers. Penetration is dangerous due to its age and condition, but exploring the exterior reveals a hull encrusted with anemones and sponges. Schools of hottentot and strepies often swirl around the superstructure, while the occasional shy shark might be spotted in the sand nearby. It’s a somber, impressive dive that demands respect.
