JETPUR SHAHER - Hikkaduwa & South Coast

The Jetpur Shaher, a 74-metre motor vessel, ran aground in 1985 after drifting from Colombo Harbour. It’s now practically on the beach, which means it’s a brilliant shore dive. We love that you can just wade in and explore a proper shipwreck. This site suits anyone keen on getting close to a wreck without a boat trip. The bow section is completely out of the water, a stark skeletal reminder of its past. As you swim out, the wreck stretches into deeper water, but much of it remains shallow. You’ll find schools of snappers and fusiliers moving through the holds, often with lionfish tucked into the shadows. We’ve even seen small reef sharks here, though they’re shy. The engine room is a great place to poke around, but keep an eye on your buoyancy – silt kicks up easily. It's an easy dive, perfect for photographers or those looking to extend their bottom time.
