One Ocean Dive Centre - Dar es Salaam & Offshore Islands
Okay, so this isn’t a named reef in the conventional sense. Instead, “One Ocean Dive Centre” refers to the house reef right in front of their facility, and honestly, we’re often surprised by how much is going on here. It’s an easy entry, typically a calm swim out, which makes it perfect for a relaxed afternoon dive or a check-out. You’re not dropping onto some dramatic wall, but rather exploring a sloping reef, perhaps 8-12 metres in parts, with plenty of nooks and crannies. We’ve had some truly fantastic macro dives here. Look closely and you’ll find those Bluestripe Pipefish weaving through the seagrass, and we’ve spotted Orange-spotted Blennies peeking out of their holes more times than we can count. We particularly love hunting for the smaller wrasse species; the Goldbar and Floral wrasses are always a treat. For an urban house reef, the species count is genuinely impressive, and the sheer number of different blennies and gobies makes it a delight for photographers who like to take their time. Give it an hour or so, just poking around the coral heads, and you’ll likely find a few surprises. It’s a site that rewards patience.
