EINIGKEIT - Bornholm

The Einigkeit, just off Bornholm, is one of those wrecks we keep coming back to. She’s not massive, a lighter vessel sunk in 1944, but her story is tangible down there. At 18 metres, she’s perfect for divers who want to spend some real bottom time soaking it all in. We love the way the light filters through the Baltic green, illuminating the structural elements she still holds. You’ll find her upright, fairly intact, though the years have certainly taken their toll. The stern is our favourite part, with the propeller still proudly in place, often draped in long strands of seaweed that sway with the gentle surge. Visibility can be a bit variable, but on a good day, you can make out her full form from bow to stern. Inside, there’s not much to penetrate, but the open holds are home to some surprisingly large cod and the occasional flatfish camouflaged against the rust. Keep an eye out for the small nudibranchs that cling to the metalwork – they’re easy to miss but worth the closer look. We’d suggest going on a calm day; it just makes the whole experience a lot more peaceful.
