EISERNE SCHUTE - Bornholm

The Eiserne Schute, or "Iron Barge," off Bornholm is a standout wreck dive for us. It’s exactly what we look for in a Baltic wreck: history you can touch, and a healthy dose of mystery. We love how the barge sits upright on the seabed at 23 metres, largely intact, giving you a real sense of its original form. You can trace its length, imagining the cargo it once carried, before heading into the holds, which are surprisingly open and inviting. Light filters down, illuminating the schools of small cod and blennies that have made this their home. Keep an eye out for the colourful nudibranchs clinging to the metalwork; they’re a delight. Our favourite time to dive it is on a calm summer morning, when the visibility is at its best, often reaching 15 metres. It’s a dive that rewards careful exploration, perfect for divers who appreciate a wreck with a story.
