EXPLORER II - Bornholm

The *Explorer II* isn't just another wreck; it's a mood. We love this site for its character, a trawler lying perfectly upright at 19 metres, making it an excellent dive for those comfortable with deeper recreational limits but not looking for technical challenges. Descending onto her deck, you’ll find the wheelhouse still largely intact, a real thrill to peek inside, imagining the last moments before she found her final resting place in 1974. The Baltic's chill can be unforgiving, so proper drysuit technique is essential, but the visibility here can be surprisingly good, sometimes pushing 15 metres, especially outside the busy summer months. We'd suggest aiming for a late autumn dive; the light filtering through the water takes on a silvery quality, accentuating the wreck’s silhouette. Look for the resident cod often lurking in the shadow of the mast, and we’ve even spotted inquisitive conger eels peeking from beneath the hull. It’s a photographer's dream for atmospheric shots, even if the colour palette is more muted than tropical sites. Our favourite part? The sheer sense of history, how everything just stopped mid-voyage.
