GRIFFEN - Bornholm

For something a bit different, a proper northern European wreck dive, Bornholm’s Griffen is one of our favourites. This isn't a tropical reef; it's a deep, cold-water exploration with a real sense of history. Dropping down to 41 metres, the visibility here can be surprisingly good on a calm day, and the wreck itself is remarkably intact for a vessel that’s been down since 1993. We love exploring the wheelhouse and peering into the holds, imagining the last moments of this former fishing boat. What makes Griffen special for us is how quickly marine life has adopted it. You'll find cod lurking in the shadows, their eyes following you, along with various crabs scuttling over the decking. It’s a quiet, contemplative dive, suiting experienced divers comfortable with deeper profiles and colder temperatures. Our tip? Go with a local guide; they often know the best approach to avoid any unexpected currents and can point out specific features you might otherwise miss in the low light.
