HAMBURG - Bornholm

The Hamburg isn't some deep, dark mystery wreck, which is exactly why we love it. This isn't a dive for ticking off rare pelagics, it’s about a tangible piece of history, so close to the surface you can almost reach out and touch it from the shore. The fishing vessel ran aground on Bornholm’s south coast back in 1974, and since then, the Baltic Sea has slowly, beautifully, reclaimed it. You’ll find the wreck spread across the shallows, starting practically at the waterline and spilling out a little deeper. It’s perfect for a long, relaxed snorkel or a shallow dive, giving you ample time to explore the skeletal remains of the hull and superstructure. We’ve spent hours here, just finning around the twisted metal, watching the local fish dart through the rusted framework. The light penetration is incredible, especially on a sunny day, illuminating the wreck’s details and the greenish hues of the Baltic. It’s a great site for photographers looking for an atmospheric shot without the need for fancy strobes, and truly one of our favourites for a low-key, reflective dive.
