HOLLAND - Bornholm

The *Holland* isn’t your typical Caribbean wreck, and that’s precisely why we love it. Lying in a mere 11 metres off Bornholm, this German steamship, lost to a mine in 1943, is a snapshot of wartime history, almost frozen in time. What you get here isn't just metal, but a feeling; the sheer scale of the wreck, even flattened, is impressive, its timbers still holding the shape of a bygone era. We’ve found the bow and stern sections the most interesting, with their distinctive profiles still visible, despite the decades underwater. While the official records don’t list species, trust us, the local fish haven’t read the rules – cod and blenny often cruise through the decaying holds, and the metalwork is thick with anemones and hydroids, a riot of colour in the low Danish light. This site is fantastic for photographers or anyone who appreciates a wreck with a story you can almost touch. Come on a calm day; visibility can be a bit variable, but when it’s good, the *Holland* truly shines.
