INGMAR - Bornholm

The Ingmar, off Bornholm, is one of those wrecks that really sticks with you. We've dived her a few times, and each visit reveals something new. Dropping down, you hit the bow at around 30 metres, but the real show is further back, where the stern sits upright in 44 metres. She sank in a storm in '84, on her way to Rotterdam, and you can almost feel the chaos of that day as you glide along her decks. What we love about the Ingmar is how intact she is. The superstructure is still there, and though she’s listed a bit, it’s possible to poke around some of the cargo holds, just be mindful of potential silt-outs. The real draw, though, is the engine room access for those with the right training and gear; it’s a tight squeeze, but incredibly atmospheric. Shoals of cod hang motionless in the shadows, and we’ve often seen impressive flatfish camouflaged on the sandy bottom nearby. We'd suggest going on a calm day; the visibility can be excellent, making that deep blue descent to the stern genuinely mesmerising. This is a dive for experienced wreck enthusiasts, no doubt, given the depth and potential for penetration.
