Jezioro Bielin - Bornholm

Memba 1 on Pemba Island is one of those spots that just *feels* right. We love the way the reef starts shallow, then just keeps going, a proper wall dive that’s full of surprises. You’ll be drifting past giant gorgonian fans and barrel sponges, keeping an eye out for green turtles cruising by. It’s the kind of dive where we’ve spotted everything from curious cowfish poking out of their coral hidey-holes to the surprisingly large Goldbar wrasse. Our favourite thing about Memba 1 is the sheer number of small, interesting critters if you take your time. Look closely at the coral heads for cone snails and cowries, often tucked away in crevices. The currents here can be moderate, a pleasant drift most days, which makes for easy viewing as you glide past the action. If you’re a fan of spotting the smaller, more elusive stuff while still getting that big blue feel of a deep wall, this site is a strong contender. We’d suggest going in the morning; the light is usually best then, really bringing out the colours of the reef.
