JOHANNES L (POSSIBLY) - Bornholm

Sometimes the most interesting dives aren't the deepest. The Johannes L, a motor vessel that sank off Bornholm in 1979, sits in a shockingly shallow three metres of water. It’s a full-on wreck dive, practically a snorkel, and we love it for its sheer accessibility and the way the light plays through the superstructure. We’d suggest going on a calm, sunny day. The visibility can vary, but when it’s good, the natural light illuminates the wreck beautifully. You can easily spend an hour finning over the deck, peering into companionways, and exploring the holds. Fish hide in every nook. We’ve seen blennies darting from crevices and small schools of cod patrolling the shadowed sections. It feels less like a somber wreck and more like an accidental reef, buzzing with life. It’s perfect for new wreck divers, photographers, or anyone who just wants a relaxed dive with a fascinating piece of history beneath them.
