JOHNNY - Bornholm

The Johnny wreck, a merchant vessel that sank back in 1948, is one of our favourites in Bornholm. It’s got a real story to it, feeling more like an archaeological site than just another submerged hull. Dropping down to 21 metres, the visibility here can be surprisingly good, especially on a calm day. We love how the wreck is spread out across the seabed, almost as if it’s inviting you to piece together its history. You'll spend most of your dive exploring the scattered remains, identifying sections of the hull, and imagining the cargo it once carried. The structure itself is home to a robust population of local fish, often sheltering in the broken compartments. We’ve spotted some impressively large cod here, and the way they glide through the rusted metal is pretty special. It’s a dive that rewards careful exploration and a keen eye, perfect for those who appreciate the quiet dignity of a well-preserved wreck rather than just big pelagics. Aim for a slack tide; the currents can pick up, making it a bit more challenging to navigate the debris field.
