K.F.K.99 (POSSIBLY) - Bornholm

The K.F.K.99 is one of those Baltic wrecks that just hits differently. Lying in 24 metres, it's a drifter vessel, fairly intact, which always makes for a more interesting dive than something completely broken up. We love that it’s still recognisable as a boat, with the bow and stern sections distinct, even after all these years on the seabed. Dropping down, the visibility in Bornholm can be temperamental, but when it’s good, you can pick out the shape from 10 metres up. We’ve found the best time to dive it is often early morning before any wind picks up. The deck structures are largely gone, but you can peer into the holds, which are now home to thick walls of mussels and quite a few small cod. There’s a wonderful sense of history down there. It’s a good wreck for those comfortable in slightly colder water and who appreciate the stories these old boats tell, rather than just chasing big pelagics. Keep an eye out for flatfish camouflaged on the sand just off the hull, they’re surprisingly common.
