KOL-38 - Bornholm

The KOL-38 off Bornholm is a standout, particularly for those who appreciate wrecks with a bit of history etched into their steel. We love it because it’s not just a collection of twisted metal; it feels like a genuine time capsule resting at 51 metres. Descending, you can often feel the slight chill of the Baltic, even in summer, adding to the atmosphere. The wreck itself is a former fishing trawler, sunk deliberately after World War II, and it’s surprisingly intact, considering its age and depth. You'll find the wheelhouse still largely defined, and we've spent many minutes exploring the deck, imagining what life was like aboard. Schools of cod and pollock frequently hang around the superstructure, darting in and out of the openings where windows once were. Sometimes, a curious grey seal will pop in for a quick look at your bubbles, which is always a treat. Our favourite part is navigating the cargo hold, which is now home to an impressive collection of brittle stars and sea anemones. Visibility can swing here, from a murky 5 metres to a glorious 20, so checking conditions is key. We’d suggest a calm day with minimal surge for the best experience. This site is definitely one for experienced divers comfortable with deeper profiles and potential thermoclines.
