KOL-73 - Bornholm

KOL-73 isn’t about big pelagics or colourful reefs; it’s about history, cold water, and the quiet dignity of a wreck. This old trawler, sitting upright at 28 meters, is remarkably intact. We love how it’s become a home for so much life in the Baltic. Drop down and you’ll find yourself finning over a deck draped in feathery hydroids and anemones, with shoals of small cod drifting through the wheelhouse. Our favourite part is poking around the stern, where the prop is still visible, encrusted with barnacles. It’s an easy wreck to penetrate for those with the right training; the holds are open and inviting, but always mind your buoyancy – the silt here can be easily disturbed. Visibility can vary, often better in late summer, but even on a murkier day, the outline of the trawler emerging from the gloom has a certain dramatic appeal. It’s a site for divers who appreciate the story beneath the waves, for those who find beauty in rust and resilience, and who don’t mind a chillier dive.
