MALMO (POSSIBLY) - Bornholm

The Malmö, near Bornholm, isn't your typical colourful reef dive, but we love it for its moody, almost ghost-like presence. Resting in just 8 metres, this steamship, sunk back in 1941, feels incredibly accessible. You're not battling depth here; you're simply immersing yourself in a piece of history. We’d suggest going on a calm day; even a slight swell can stir up the silty bottom, turning an already atmospheric dive into a low-viz challenge. Once you drop in, the wreck immediately reveals itself, a dark silhouette against the often grey-green light. Rust colours paint the metal, and you can pick out remnants of the ship's structure – think boilers, deck plating, and maybe even a few collapsed superstructure elements depending on how much time has passed since our last visit. It’s the kind of site that suits divers who appreciate historical context and the quiet beauty of a wreck slowly succumbing to the sea. Shoals of small fish dart in and out of the metalwork, and we often spot cod lurking in the shadows. For us, it’s a dive that tells a story, rather than just showing off marine life.
