MARIANNE - Bornholm

Diving the Marianne is always a fascinating trip back in time, even if the cold water means you’re layered up. This steamship went down in 1946, off Bornholm, and she sits upright at a very manageable 18 metres. We love how intact she is, especially for a wreck of this age. You can clearly make out the bow, the stern, and even the superstructure, making for some truly evocative dives. Inside, where the light struggles to reach, you’ll find plenty of small cod and blennies sheltering in the holds. Visibility, when it's good, lets you appreciate her full length, roughly 72 metres of history. We’d suggest going on a calm day; the Baltic can kick up a fuss and strong currents sometimes sweep across the deck. Our favourite part is navigating the corridors that are still surprisingly open, imagining the crew’s last moments. It’s a site that suits anyone comfortable with cold water and wreck penetration, offering a tangible link to maritime history.
