MICKEN - Bornholm

Micken is one of those wrecks that really grows on you, especially if you appreciate a good story with your dive. She’s a fishing vessel, went down in 1990, so not ancient, but she’s had enough time on the seabed to become a proper home for sea life. We love that she’s relatively intact, sitting upright at 35 metres, which makes for a satisfying penetration if you’re wreck-qualified and keep an eye on your no-deco limit. When you drop down, the visibility here can be… variable, but on a good day, the outline of the trawler emerges from the green murk with real drama. Schools of cod often patrol the deck, and we’ve seen some seriously chunky flatfish tucked into the sand nearby. Our favourite part is exploring the wheelhouse – it feels like stepping back in time, even if it’s only 30 years ago. Just remember, the currents can pick up, so check the forecast and be ready for a bit of a swim. Micken might not be a tropical reef, but she’s got that raw, North Sea charm that keeps us coming back.
