UST-36 - Bornholm

The UST-36, off the coast of Bornholm, isn't your typical wreck dive. Forget colourful corals and pelagic parades. This is a journey into history, cold water style. At 30 metres, the old barge lies upright and surprisingly intact, a testament to the Baltic’s preserving chill. We love the way the light filters down, creating an almost ghostly atmosphere as you descend. What makes UST-36 a standout for us? It’s the sense of scale and the quiet drama of its resting place. You can swim the length of its deck, noting the barnacles and anemones that have slowly claimed its metal surfaces. There are plenty of nooks to peek into, though penetration requires proper training given the silty bottom. We've often spotted cod lurking in the shadows of the hold, and sometimes, a curious seal will make a fleeting appearance. It’s a dive for those who appreciate the stark beauty of a historical wreck, where the story is as much about the vessel itself as the life it now supports. Best dived on a calm day; even a slight chop on the surface can make the journey down feel a bit more turbulent.
