VILLON - Bornholm

The Villon, a cargo ship that went down in '86, sits upright on the seabed at 35 metres, and we think it’s a brilliant dive for those who appreciate a good, intact wreck. You drop onto the stern first, and the sheer scale of it hits you immediately. We often find the visibility here can be surprisingly good for the Baltic, sometimes 15 metres, which really lets you take in the ship’s profile. What makes the Villon special is how much there is to explore on the outside. The cargo holds are open, a dark invitation, but we usually spend our time along the deck, peeking into the superstructure where the wheelhouse once was. Conger eels sometimes peek out from shadowed crevices, and there’s always a scatter of crabs scuttling over the plating. It’s a proper ship, not just a pile of debris, and you get a real sense of its history as you glide along its length. For experienced divers comfortable with deeper wrecks and potentially colder water, the Villon is one of our top picks in Bornholm.
