ZULLCHOW - Bornholm

Zullchow on Bornholm is a shallow wreck that we’ve always enjoyed, especially for its historical feel. You’re diving on a casualty from WWII, sunk by a mine, and that’s a pretty unique vibe for a three-meter dive. It’s a great spot for an extended surface interval or even a snorkel if you’re not kitted up for a full dive, but we think it’s best appreciated with a mask firmly planted on your face. The wreck itself is well-broken, spread across the sandy bottom. You can make out the ribs of the hull and scattered bits of machinery. What we particularly love is how the local fish use the wreckage for shelter. We’ve seen blennies darting into crevices and, if you’re patient, small schools of juvenile cod ghosting around the larger sections. Visibility can swing, but on a calm day, the sunlight penetrates right to the bottom, illuminating the twisted metal and the life finding refuge there. It's a dive that rewards slow exploration and a keen eye for history.
