FRANCESCA - Marseille & Calanques

We love a wreck with a story, and the Francesca has a dramatic one. This stern trawler met its end in 1976, crushed by the colossal *Ben Franklin* during a fierce gale. You can still see the impact, the wreck is surprisingly intact in some places, but utterly mangled in others. Sitting upright at 18 metres, it’s a perfect depth for those newer to wreck diving or anyone who just wants to take their time. Swim through the holds, peer into the wheelhouse, and imagine the chaos of that night. The Mediterranean light filters through the gaps, illuminating the resident conger eels peeking from pipes and the dense schools of damselfish that shimmer around the superstructure. Look for nudibranchs clinging to the metal, adding splashes of colour to the rust. It’s a site that feels alive, a testament to nature reclaiming what was lost, and our favourite for a relaxed afternoon exploring maritime history.
