Grotte à Corail - Marseille & Calanques

The Grotte à Corail is one of those dives that sticks with you long after the boat ride back. We love it because it’s not just a cave, it’s a living gallery, really. You drop down to about 20 meters, and the entrance is wide and inviting, not claustrophobic at all. Inside, it’s cool and quiet, a real contrast to the sun-drenched surface. The walls are just carpeted in vibrant sunset cup coral, an incredible splash of orange against the dim rock. We’ve often seen Risso's crabs scuttling over them, and the occasional green wrasse will eye you from a crevice. Further back, the cave opens up into a larger chamber, and that’s where you find the precious red coral, delicate and branching, a true Mediterranean treasure. It’s deeper here, around 30-35 meters, so manage your bottom time carefully. Visibility can be a bit spooky if someone kicks up the silt, so we always suggest going in a smaller, experienced group and keeping your fin strokes precise. This is an advanced dive, definitely for those comfortable in overhead environments and with excellent buoyancy. It’s a photographer’s dream, but leave the wide-angle for the entrance; you’ll want a macro lens for the details inside.
