TROMBLON - Marseille & Calanques

The Tromblon, a World War II minesweeper, sits upright at 25 metres, and we think it’s one of the most atmospheric wrecks in the Calanques. The bow is gone, blown off during its sinking, but the rest of the ship is surprisingly intact. As you descend, the stern looms out of the blue, often hazy with schools of damselfish. We love swimming through the engine room, which is wide open thanks to years of corrosion, and exploring the bridge area where you can still make out the helm. Look closely, and you’ll spot scorpionfish camouflaged on the deck plates and conger eels peeking from pipes. This wreck is perfect for intermediate divers looking for a leisurely exploration with some interesting historical context. We’d suggest going in the morning; the light filters beautifully through the water, illuminating the wreck’s ghostly silhouette against the seafloor. Watch for a slight current, especially around the exposed stern.
