FOUR SEA - Alonissos Marine Park

FOUR SEA isn't your typical deep Mediterranean wreck, and that's precisely why we love it. Sunk in 1988, this motor vessel grounded en route from the UK to Kavala, eventually making its final resting place in the shallows of Alonissos Marine Park. Forget heavy gear and decompression stops here; the wreck sits at a maximum depth of two metres, making it perfect for snorkelers, freedivers, and even curious beginners taking their first breaths on scuba. What you get is a sun-drenched, accessible time capsule. The stern, in particular, is a real favourite of ours. You can fin right over the deck, peering into the cargo holds where light plays off the decaying metal. Schools of damselfish shimmer around the superstructure, and if you look closely, you'll spot tiny blennies darting into crevices. We’ve seen octopuses here more times than we can count, often camouflaged so well against the rusting hull you almost swim right past them. It’s a gentle exploration, utterly devoid of the pressure of deeper dives, yet still packed with history and life. Go early in the morning for the best light and fewest fellow explorers.
