KIMOLOS - Dodecanese

Kimolos is a standout wreck, especially given its shallow depth. We love it because you’re diving a proper, substantial wreck, not just scattered debris, and you can stay down for ages. This roll-on, roll-off ferry went down in 1992 after running aground on the wreck of the SS Pytheas – talk about bad luck. At only 10 metres, it's perfect for extended bottom times, which means plenty of opportunity for leisurely exploration. The ferry lies in a way that feels surprisingly intact for its age. You’ll weave through the car deck, imagining vehicles still strapped down, and poke around the superstructure. Light filters beautifully through the openings, illuminating schools of damselfish that dart in and out of the shadows. Keep an eye out for octopus tucked into crevices and moray eels peeking from behind twisted metal. It’s an ideal spot for newer wreck divers to gain confidence, or for experienced divers to enjoy a relaxed, detail-oriented dive without worrying about deco limits. Our tip: go in the late afternoon; the low sun casts long, dramatic shadows over the wreck, making it feel even more atmospheric.
