The team at WE Dive SRL are our go-to for diving the Portofino Marine Protected Area. Honestly, their local knowledge runs deep, and you feel it from the moment you step into their centre. They’re a PADI 5 Star IDC centre, which means whether you’re looking to get certified, advance your skills, or even go pro, they’ve got the instructors and the infrastructure to make it happen. We particularly love that they really focus on making you feel comfortable, especially if you haven't dived in a while or you’re a newer diver. Diving Portofino is something special. The water often has that cool, emerald tint that just feels uniquely Mediterranean. We’ve finned past huge schools of barracuda here, sometimes so many they block out the sun for a second. The Christ of the Abyss statue is a classic, of course, but don't overlook some of the lesser-known wall dives where you can find red gorgonians blooming in the deeper sections. For us, the highlight is often those unexpected encounters with groupers peeking out from their rocky shelters, or the flash of a sunfish in the bluer water if you’re lucky. We’d suggest diving early to avoid the boat traffic, especially in summer. The surface conditions can get choppy later in the day, but underwater, it’s often calm and clear.
