EUGENIO DUTRUS - Al Hoceima

The *Eugenio Dutrus* wreck, a cargo vessel sunk close to shore, is a surprisingly engaging dive. We love that it's so accessible. Even though it sits in just a metre of water, don't let the depth fool you into thinking it's not worth a look. Our favourite way to experience it is by freediving or even just snorkelling on a calm day. You'll quickly pick out the ship’s ribs, a skeletal framework rising from the seabed. Sunlight pierces the surface, illuminating the metalwork in a shimmering dance. Small shoals of juvenile fish, often sea bream and wrasse, dart through the beams, using the wreck as shelter. It's a great spot for macro photographers, too; look closely for nudibranchs clinging to the rust-coloured metal and small crabs scuttling amongst the debris. For a truly peaceful experience, go early in the morning before any boat traffic picks up; the water is usually at its clearest then.
