Las Calderas (Wreck) - Al Hoceima

We’ve always been drawn to wrecks that tell a story, and Las Calderas is exactly that. It’s not a massive wreck, but what it lacks in size, it makes up for in character. Sitting upright at a comfortable 20 metres, the historical context of a 1920s Spanish cargo ship is clear when you hover over the deck. You can picture the crates it once carried. We love the way the light filters through the remaining deck structures, illuminating schools of chromis that dart in and out of the shadows. Entry is usually a breeze, making it a great pick for newer wreck divers or those looking for a relaxed afternoon dive. Our favourite part is exploring the cargo holds, where cracks in the hull let in just enough light to reveal some impressively large dusky groupers lurking. Keep an eye out for octopus tucked into crevices; they’re often spotted here, camouflaged against the rust. It’s a site that proves you don’t need extreme depths or strong currents for a truly engaging dive.
