OAKMOOR - Al Hoceima

The Oakmoor is a proper piece of history, resting just six metres down. It’s a steamship, 95 metres long, which means you can really get a sense of its scale even in such shallow water. We love that you can spend a full hour just swimming the length of it, piecing together its story. The wreck itself is broken up in parts, but the general outline is still there. You'll see big sections of hull, some machinery, and a scattering of plates, all encrusted with sponges and hydroids. This site is ideal for less experienced divers or anyone wanting a relaxed dive with a tangible piece of the past. The shallow depth means fantastic natural light penetration, giving the whole area a bright, almost ethereal feel. You'll often find schools of damselfish darting amongst the twisted metal, and moray eels poking their heads out from crevices. Our favourite thing is the way the light plays on the deck plates, creating shimmering patterns. Keep an eye out for octopus tucked away in the bigger nooks. It's not a deep-wreck exploration, it's more like an underwater museum visit in glorious conditions. Just be mindful of fishing lines sometimes snagged on the structure.
