REGENT LION - Al Hoceima
The Regent Lion, a tanker sunk in 1945 by a German U-boat, lies in about 24 metres of water off Al Hoceima. This wreck is a sturdy dive, with large sections of the hull and superstructure still intact, making it a good site for exploration without feeling too confined. You can trace the outlines of the cargo holds and some of the deck fittings, all now well-colonised by the usual Mediterranean suspects. We’ve seen moray eels peeking from the darker recesses and schools of damselfish flitting over the metalwork. It’s a solid wreck dive for those comfortable with deeper sites and keen to explore a piece of wartime history.
