TORREBERMEJA - Al Hoceima

Torrebermeja is a great wreck for those looking for something a bit different in the Med. We’ve always been drawn to wrecks with a good story, and a tug sunk by a US Navy vessel it was assisting certainly qualifies. Lying at a comfortable 15 meters, the 26-meter wreck is mostly intact, offering plenty to explore without pushing any limits. You can make a full circuit easily enough, peering into the small wheelhouse, imagining the last moments before it went down in 1985. What we really love about Torrebermeja is how the sea has claimed it. The metalwork is covered in colourful sponges and soft corals, a real contrast to the surrounding sand. Look closely and you’ll find moray eels tucked into every nook and cranny, and schools of damselfish flitting nervously around the superstructure. It's an easy dive, perfect for photographers wanting to capture that classic wreck shot, or for anyone keen on a relaxed exploration of a piece of maritime history. We’d suggest going in the late morning; the light filters through the clear water just right, illuminating the wreck beautifully.
