NORDWIND - Balearic Islands

The Nordwind, a pleasure craft sunk just off the coast, is a truly unusual Balearic dive. We love this site not for grand corals or pelagic encounters, but for its sheer accessibility and the way it’s become a living, breathing art piece. Sitting upright in a mere two metres of water, the wreck is completely exposed to the sun, making it incredibly bright, even on overcast days. You’ll find sunlight rippling across the deck, illuminating schools of tiny damselfish darting in and out of the cabin. What makes the Nordwind a standout for us is its transformation. Barnacles encrust every surface, with feathery anemones waving gently from railings. We've spent ages just watching juvenile ornate wrasse pick through the growth, oblivious to divers finning overhead. It’s a photographer's dream for macro shots and wide-angle views of light playing on metal. This site is perfect for snorkelers, freedivers, or new scuba divers looking for an easy, shallow wreck experience. Our favourite time to visit is late afternoon, when the sun casts long shadows and the light gets particularly buttery. Just watch out for occasional boat traffic overhead.
