Skualo - Balearic Islands
The team at Skualo in Alcúdia are the kind of people you want running your dive day. We found their approach refreshingly no-nonsense, focusing on solid instruction and getting divers out to some truly lovely local spots. If you’re serious about progressing your SSI certs, from your first breaths underwater right up to instructor level, this is a strong pick, particularly if you appreciate a dive centre that keeps things running smoothly all year round. We really rate their commitment to year-round diving. That’s a big deal in the Balearics, where many operations shut down for winter. It means the boats aren’t crammed, and the sites often feel a lot more personal. While they don't offer equipment rental, which is worth noting, their focus on SSI training is thorough. Our favourite detail? Their specialty programs. They really dial into the nuances of the local diving, giving you a chance to properly explore those 119 nearby sites. Think calm drifts over seagrass beds where you might spot a John Dory, or quieter rocky reefs with schools of damselfish darting between the boulders. We’d suggest going in the shoulder seasons, April-May or September-October, to really soak up the atmosphere without the summer crowds.
