Baume Rousse - Medes Islands

Baume Rousse has always been a Medes Islands favourite for us, especially when the light hits just right in the late morning. It’s not about grand pelagics here, but the sheer density of macro life and the captivating rock formations. We’ve spent entire dives just exploring the nooks and crannies, finding things we missed the last time around. Drop down and you're immediately struck by the rocky landscape, riddled with crevices and overhangs. Keep your eyes peeled for Risso's crabs scuttling across the rock face – they're surprisingly charismatic. We often find pipefish tucked amongst the gorgonians, perfectly camouflaged. The black sea bream and saddled seabream are almost always curious, swimming close enough for a good look. We’ve spotted deep-body pickarel here, and even a dogfish once, lurking on the sand. Look under ledges for wide-eyed flounder, they blend in incredibly well. It’s a site for patient divers, those who appreciate the smaller wonders. If you love a slow, detailed dive, Baume Rousse is a must.
