Cala des Tramadiu - Medes Islands

Cala des Tramadiu might not get the same fanfare as the tunnels of La Vaca or the big schools at El Dofi, but we think it’s a seriously underrated spot in the Medes. It’s got this really intimate feel, almost like a secret garden. You drop down into a sheltered cove, and immediately you’re surrounded by huge boulders draped in red gorgonian. We always find ourselves lingering in the shallows here, maybe 8-10 metres, just weaving through the rock formations. Keep an eye out for the smaller stuff. We’ve seen corkwing wrasse meticulously tending their nests, and the marbled gobies are always a treat to spot, hunkered down on the sand. The cardinal fish sometimes form these dense, shimmering clouds in the darker crevices. If you have the patience to really scan the rocks, you might even find a spotted dragonet camouflaged against the rubble. It’s a calmer dive, perfect for photographers or anyone who likes to take their time and really explore the nooks and crannies. We’d suggest going in the morning; the light filtering through the water is just beautiful then.
