Calanque des Contrebandiers - Medes Islands

Calanque des Contrebandiers might not scream "big fish action," but we love it for a completely different reason: the sheer density of small, interesting things. Drop down and spend some time really looking. We’ve found Pale Lucina here, tiny and almost perfectly camouflaged in the rubble, a good challenge for the keen-eyed. The Salema school up in the shallows, glinting in the Mediterranean light, while Brown Comber lurk in the cracks. It’s a fantastic site for macro enthusiasts or divers who appreciate the subtle beauty of the Mediterranean. Keep an eye out for Mediterranean Tooth-footed Snapping Shrimp, always a fun find. The topography itself is interesting, with plenty of little nooks and crannies that seem to be home to Blotched Picarel and various wrasse. We usually find ourselves spending a good chunk of the dive just pottering about at shallower depths, exploring the rock formations. If you're someone who enjoys a slower pace and wants to properly investigate a site, you’ll appreciate Contrebandiers. It’s not about grand vistas; it’s about the details.
