Calypso Diving - Medes Islands

Calypso is one of those Medes sites we keep coming back to. It’s not about huge pelagics here, it’s about the texture of the reef itself. Drop in and you’ll quickly find yourself surrounded by walls carpeted in those stunning orange sunset cup corals, really glowing against the blue. We love drifting along, keeping an eye out for the Dusky groupers that seem to pose for the camera, and the common jellyfish pulsing lazily by. Look closer and you’ll spot ornate wrasse darting in and out, and if you’re lucky, a marbled electric ray settled on the sand. The real draw here, for us, is the sheer density of life in the nooks and crannies. We’ve spent whole dives just exploring overhangs, poking around for conger eels and morays peeking out, or the bright yellow barracuda schooling overhead. It’s a photographer’s dream, particularly with the light filtering through the caves on a sunny afternoon. For something truly special, try an early morning dive before the boats fill up. It’s usually when we see the most dory and Boarfish. Calypso suits divers who appreciate intricate reef systems and are keen on spotting the smaller, more elusive creatures of the Med.
