Cavau - Medes Islands

Cavau is one of those Mediterranean dives that just sticks with you. We love dropping in here, especially first thing in the morning before the day boats crowd the islands. You’re descending into a rocky reef, and almost immediately, you’re enveloped by schools of annular seabream and brown combers. They’re everywhere, darting between the crevices, and it’s always a delight to just hang there, watching them. Keep an eye out for the smaller stuff too. We’ve had some fantastic encounters with spotted dragonets on the sandy patches – they’re surprisingly camouflaged, so move slowly. We’ve also seen grey gurnards fanning their fins, and if you’re lucky, a marbled electric ray buried in the sand. The site has a good mix of open reef and overhangs, making it suitable for divers who appreciate both the big picture and the intricate details. We’d suggest taking your time and really exploring the nooks; that’s where you’ll often find things like elliptical file-shells or even a seahorse if you’re exceptionally patient. It’s a great dive for macro lovers and those who enjoy a relaxed pace.
