Centre UCPA - Niolon - Medes Islands

Niolon in the Medes Islands, we think, is one of those spots that often gets overlooked, but it’s a real pleasure to dive. It’s not the most dramatic wall dive in the Medes, we’ll admit, but what it lacks in sheer scale, it makes up for in quiet, unassuming beauty. We’ve always found the light here particularly lovely in the late afternoon, when the sun filters through the water and illuminates the rock formations in a really warm glow. It’s an excellent site for divers who appreciate the smaller things, the creatures tucked into crevices. We’ve spent whole dives just watching seahorses here, often clinging to the tall sea pens that sway gently with the surge. You’ll also spot plenty of Blotched Picarel darting about and the occasional Saddled Seabream cruising past. It’s an easy dive, good for knocking off some rust or simply enjoying a relaxed pace underwater.
