DUGUAY-TROUIN - Medes Islands

The Duguay-Trouin, a French minesweeper sunk in 1917, lies upright in just 15 metres of water, making it surprisingly accessible for a wreck with such a story. We love how the Medes Islands’ protection has allowed this wreck to truly transform into a living reef. You can swim the full length of the deck, peering into what's left of the superstructure. Sunlight streams through the broken hull, illuminating swarms of damselfish darting between sections of twisted metal. Look closely and you’ll spot moray eels tucked into crevices, their heads poking out to watch you pass. It's not a deep dive, but we’d suggest taking your time to explore the nooks and crannies. The mast, now heavily encrusted with gorgonians, is a particular favourite of ours – a real photographic opportunity, especially when the light is just right in the late morning. This site offers a fantastic blend of history and marine life, perfect for divers who appreciate a wreck that feels truly integrated with its environment.
