el Medallot - Medes Islands

El Medallot is one of our favourites in the Medes, always delivering something interesting. The main attraction here is the swim-through, a tight squeeze at first but it opens into a fantastic cavern. Inside, we’ve often found a couple of yellow barracuda just hanging out, seemingly unbothered by divers. The light filters in from cracks above, creating these incredible shafts you can just float through. Outside the cavern, the rock face is draped in bushy coral and scarlet coral, a vibrant splash of colour against the Mediterranean blue. Keep an eye out for red snapping shrimp peeking from crevices, and we’ve even spotted a sea horse tucked away on a few occasions, though they’re notoriously shy. Bass and jac schools often cruise by in the bluer water, so it’s worth looking out into the open. The site is relatively shallow, making it a relaxed dive, but the swim-through means it’s better for those comfortable in enclosed spaces. We’d suggest going in the morning before it gets too busy; the Medes can draw a crowd.
