Gabiniėre Est - Medes Islands

Gabinière Est feels like the Medes Islands showing off, and we love it for that. It’s the kind of dive where you descend into that classic Mediterranean blue, a slight chill in the water even in summer, then the wall just appears. We’re talking big gorgonian fans here, deep reds and oranges that pop against the blueness, especially when a shaft of sunlight catches them just right. Look closely in the cracks and overhangs for the common lobsters and fat congers; they’re often tucked away, just their antennae twitching. The real show, though, often comes from the schools of corb and blackfish. They gather in impressive numbers, swirling like a silver cloud you can fin right through. It’s busy, active, and full of that raw energy the Medes are known for. We'd suggest going mid-week if you can; it gets popular, and a little less boat traffic always makes for a calmer experience. This site really suits divers who appreciate a dramatic wall, good fish action, and don't mind a bit of current to keep things interesting.
